Message from the Head of Department
Welcome to the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at The Eldoret National Polytechnic — a centre of excellence in skills training since 1988.

Since the inception of the institution, our department has proudly trained thousands of skilled professionals who now contribute meaningfully to industry and national development across Kenya. Over the years, we have continued to grow in infrastructure, equipment, staff expertise, and student population — all with one goal: to equip young people with practical, employable skills for the modern world.

Why choose us?
We provide hands-on, industry-relevant training using state-of-the-art equipment and modern workshops. Our programmes develop not only technical competence but also professional attitudes and innovation skills in areas such as:
• Automotive Engineering
• Mechanical Production and Plant Engineering
• Welding and Fabrication
• Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
• Agricultural Engineering
• Construction Plant Technology
In partnership with Bajaj Auto Industries Limited Company, the department established a Regional Training Centre for two-wheeler technology in June 2023, equipped with modern motorcycles, models, and training components to enhance practical learning.
Nationally recognized training and certification
Our trainees are assessed and certified by:
• The Eldoret National Polytechnic
• TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET CDACC)
The department also fully implements Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), enabling experienced individuals to gain formal certification for skills already acquired.
In addition to our engineering programmes, the Department offers comprehensive Driving School Courses designed to produce competent, disciplined, and safety-conscious drivers for both private and commercial sectors. Our driving programmes combine theoretical instruction, simulator exposure (where applicable), practical on-road training, and road safety education to ensure learners not only pass licensing tests but also become responsible road users. The courses are suitable for beginners, career drivers, and individuals seeking to upgrade their licence categories.
Available Driving Categories are A1/A2/A3 – Motorbikes & Tuk-tuks,B1/B2 – Light Vehicles,C1/C2 – Medium Trucks, D1–D3 – Vans & Buses, CE – Heavy Trailers and E – Professional Drivers
