Principal Secretary State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training Dr. Esther Muoria has called on National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to support the government’s agenda of achieving a 100 percent transition of students from secondary schools to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Speaking yesterday at The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP), Dr. Muoria urged NGAO officers from Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties to intensify grassroots mobilisation of KCSE graduates to enrol in TVET institutions. She said TVET offers a practical pathway to skills development, employment, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
Dr. Muoria noted that the National Government, in collaboration with education stakeholders, county leadership and training institutions, is enhancing mobilisation efforts to ensure more KCSE graduates transition into TVET for skills training and post-secondary education. She added that programmes such as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are expanding access by enabling skilled individuals to obtain formal certification of their competencies.
The Eldoret National Polytechnic Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, in his remarks, commended the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training for its continued support in strengthening TVET institutions and expanding access to quality skills training.
Dr. Koech said Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) is equipping learners with practical skills aligned to industry needs, while Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is creating opportunities for skilled individuals to gain formal certification. He added that the rising enrolment in TVET institutions reflects growing confidence in skills-based training and stronger alignment between training programmes and labour market demands.
